Speech and language assessment

The assessment is the first stage of therapy. It gives a clear picture of your child's needs and allows us to plan the work ahead. It always takes place in person at the practice, because, in addition to speech and communication, we also look at the anatomy of the mouth, the structure and function of the articulators, and your child's facial and bite (occlusal) conditions.

The assessment may include:

  • an evaluation of language comprehension and speech and language development
  • how your child builds sentences and the size of their vocabulary
  • the pronunciation of individual speech sounds
  • the mobility of the tongue, lips and jaw
  • the way your child breathes, bites, chews and swallows
  • the resting position of the tongue and lips
  • an evaluation of facial and bite (occlusal) conditions
  • a detailed case history taken with you as the parent

During the case history, your child's development so far is also discussed. Before the first appointment, it is worth recalling, among other things, the stages of motor development, how your child's diet was expanded, when cooing and babbling began, and the first words.

Once the assessment is complete, the results are discussed and you receive recommendations as a parent. If needed, further therapy or a consultation with another specialist is proposed.
